Last week, the questions was asked as to how we inspire employees and sustain passion in times of enconomic struggle, downsizing, etc.
This week, I will ask, how do YOU remain inspired with the daily hurdles faced by leaders.....difficult employees, vacancies, budget constraints, unengaged work teams, etc.
What inspires you and drives you to pursue additional leadership opportunities?

The thing that inspires me to lead is personal accomplishments. At this point in my career and life I haven’t led a team in four years. I’ve worked as an analyst, where I consult with supervisors, managers, and directors daily, still directly leading a team again as a supervisor would be an accomplishment. I would like to then push myself to see if I could be hired as a manager, and then do consulting work.
Another goal I am working towards, and drives me to lead, and do the best work I can is trying to get a Masters Degree. Since the business landscape is very competitive I think I’ll be going to school for a degree or certification of some kind until I am close to retiring. There are excellent candidates graduating from college every year and I have to maintain a competitive edge. School is that edge for me. The way I’m able to go to school is through company benefits offered to me.
In closing I think I answered this weeks blog more as an individual because business is very unpredictable in an age of layoffs, difficult employees, budget constraints, and unengaged teams. I think a way to stay fresh and overcome those obstacles is by seeing just exactly what I can accomplish at work daily, yearly, and over the course of a career.

What is the most motivating is seeing the efforts of many come together collectively to achieve team goals and objectives. As the leader, it is my responsibility to set the pace, raise the bar on expectations and take people with me on our journey to achieve said goals. Even in the toughest of times setting realistic goals and objectives to achieve either monthly or quartertly keep the team focused and on task.
I believe that inspiration comes from within; how we as individuals are wired, that makes all of the difference. Everyone has heard the saying "Play like a Champion Today". When you figure out how to bring that to life on a daily basis you will be forever inspired both persoanlly and professionally.

Personally, what encourages me is passion in what I do. I believe in what we set out to accomplish and that keeps me going.
The folks that I lead take a lot of ownership and pride in what they do. I use that as motivation for their success. It's easy. The hard part is encourgaing them to step out of their comfort zone and step in when times are tough and their expertise and bandwidth is needed.

At this point the motivation for me is the challenge to become more knowledgable and adept at problem solving. Also, I want to utilize the education and experience I have along with the newly acquired knowledge and experience I am gaining through the Walsh master's program, to do consulting work and possibly some teaching once I get the Masters Degree. Learning new things and the challenges of applying them, is motivating for me.

The search for knowledge.
What keeps me motivated? It is the belief that what we are doing is right; and that our focus on creating a new remarkable vision of care is attainable.
I absolutely love my job; I love the company I work for; I believe in the values and ethics that they have put before me and I have adopted the company philosophy as my mantra. It all sounds cliche but without any of the above; I could not function as a leader. I also have the best group of peers and co-workers. They are all motivated to create and try something new.
It is observing and learning from my mentor, and then being given permission to try and attain new goals and setting a vision that is beyond what we have ever thought possible.
Right now; I am very inspired and this heightened inspiration has become contagious with our team. We are in an idea/change/creative mode that has surpassed anything we have ever had in the past. Pretty neat as a leader to watch!
